Often overlooked because of its close proximity to the world-renowned Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam’s Moco Museum offers an exciting fusion of popular modern art pieces and immersive digital art exhibitions at a price that won’t break the bank.

Inside the first section of the museum lies an array of highly impressive contemporary art collections, including the permanent Banksy exhibit featuring some of the artist’s most admired prints- the 2002 ‘Girl with Balloon’, the 2003 ‘“Keep it Real” Monkey’, and the 2004 ‘Di-Faced Tenners’.

While all pieces in this collection are undeniably excellent, my personal favourite has to be the 2002 ‘Rude Copper’ print, which, in its contrasting use of light and dark, appears almost three-dimensional, and grabs the attention of visitors without necessarily being the largest piece in the room.

Situated deeper inside the museum is the immersive digital art exhibition headed by Studio Irma, which according to Moco Museum’s official website, is designed to introduce “Connectivism as a new art movement”.

Though slightly disorientating at first, the Kaleidoscope Room in particular is a major highlight of this exhibition, providing what can only be described as a neon wonderland of colours, patterns, and textures, which thanks to the mirrored walls, appear to continue on forever.

The only slight problem with this exhibit is that it is significantly more enjoyable when the rooms are empty, without other visitors repeatedly cutting across to continue to the next section thus breaking the illusion.

As such, it is advisable to visit Moco away from peak times, to ensure the exhibit is as enjoyable as possible, and visitors can take their time to be fully immersed in the experience.

Overall though, at less than €20 (£17) for a standard adult ticket, children under the age of 6 being admitted for free, and student discounts also being offered, an afternoon at Moco works out as one of the most affordable in central Amsterdam.
