Beautiful indie horror with plenty to offer.
You know how sometimes you see a game on your wish list and have no idea how it got there? you don’t remember who recommended it or whether you added it because it looked good? Well I took a chance and ended up buying that game on sale and finally had a chance to play it. That game was Mundaun.
The story follows a man trying to find out how is grandfather died by going to his scenic mountain home and finding clues to his death which seem to be connected to something supernatural, as evidenced in the first scene. As the story unfolded I got more and more intrigued and let out an audible ‘ooooh’ at the end revelation. The characters in the game are odd to the say the least considering one is a decapitated goat head that you have to carry around everywhere and occasionally talk to. However the main Antagonist is quite intimidating with a few creepy tricks up his sleeve such as distorting your reflection in the mirror if staring at it long enough. Normal enemies in the game can be quite frustrating to deal with as the combat is
terrible. Probably the only bad thing about the game.
There are some cool gameplay mechanics such as staring at a plain poster of your truck will summon it next to you for easy access and paintings animate when you stare at them. There are plenty of puzzles in the game to keep you occupied and the story has you moving between the present and the past as you discover more of your grandads secret.
The game is short but captivating. I’m not sure how i had never heard about it before but I believe that anyone who loves horror games or indie games should definitely pick it up. It has officially taken a spot on my favourite games of all time list.
I played the game on the PS5 but it is also available on the Xbox One and Series. PC and Switch
