Family Matters

Plague Tale takes you to 14th century France as you sneak your way through areas patrolled by the French inquisition who are after your little brother for reasons known later in the game, as well as trying to light your way through hordes of rats that will obliterate anyone in their way unless they have or are around a fire source.

Your only real weapon is a sling shot however as you make your way through the game you unlock different types of ammo to help you in different situation such as fire shots to light a torch from a distance. I personally found the fighting system to be quite fun and enjoyed trying to figure out the best ways to make my way through hordes of rats desperate to peel away my flesh with a single wrong step. You do get to choose whether to sneak or fight head on with human enemies which is nice. The atmosphere is really gritty and dirty looking and really does make you feel like you’re in the middle of a plague outbreak which is nice (or not).

The story of the game was pretty interesting although at times I did feel like abandoning my little brother due to his attitude but hey i guess that’s just realistic sibling behaviour. The game is essentially a giant escort mission as you try and get your little brother the help he needs whilst trying to escape from people who seem to be after him but don’t let the ‘escort’ bit put you off. I highly enjoyed my time in Plague Tale and immediately jumped into the sequel straight after. Review for that to come.

I played the PS4 version of the game but it is also available on the PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC and Nintendo Switch.
